The Citizen Perception Report on Rampant Kidney Disease in Gashua, drawing on 500 respondents across 50 communities in Bade Local Government Area, Yobe State.

The findings show how widely the disease is felt: 93.5% of respondents are aware of its prevalence, and 78.4% have lost someone to kidney failure. A third, 34%, attribute it to the water they drink.

On the Yobe State Government’s free dialysis programme, 51% consider it ineffective and 76.8% say dialysis alone is not enough. Asked what else is needed, 95.4% called for subsidised or free medication, 87.8% for support to affected families.

The report recommends stronger prevention and screening, scientific investigation of the causes, better access to treatment, support for affected households, and specialised kidney care closer to the community.
